The states of New Jersey and Ohio have gotten a $400 million settlement from the company which provided insurance for state pension and workers compensation programs. A New York man has been charged with committing long-term, systemic insurance fraud after receiving five years of workers compensation payments. The 38-year-old man filed a claim in 2003 saying he’d slipped on ice on his way to work. A worker in New Jersey has been seriously injured following an accident in which the worker had his leg ran over by a steamroller. This accident caused serious injuries to occur as the workers leg was crushed horribly.
Emergency workers were able to rush the man to the hospital following the accident. The current condition and status of the man is not known. Upon arrival at the hospital, the man was listed in critical condition. The accident will be investigated by officials and authorities.

The workers compensation carrier alleged this was a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and counted as mail fraud; the court ruled against the carrier. New legislation signed into law by President Obama will extend the amount of time a person can claim unemployment benefits by twenty weeks.
