NY Trucking Company Ordered to Pay After Underreporting Payroll

A trucking company based in Colonie, NY has been ordered by the state to pay $315,600 to the New York insurance fund after it was discovered that the company was underreporting payroll in order to avoid paying for workers’ compensation. According to the state’s Insurance Department, Eagle River, Inc, had already paid $150,000 of the debt. Prosecutors say that the company was underreporting their payroll by approximately $2.2 million over a three-year period. An audit by state investigators showed the discrepancy, which the company had been exploiting in order to pay lower insurance premiums.
