New legislation signed into law by President Obama will extend the amount of time a person can claim unemployment benefits by twenty weeks. Under the new law, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development will file a claim to extend Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits for approximately 65,000 New Jersey citizens who have run out of other state and federal benefits.
