An explosion in a mine owned by Massey Energy Co. in West Virginia on Monday has killed 25 people.
Four miners are still missing after the blast, which occurred about 30 miles south of Charleston. Safety officials report that the mine had a history of violations for failure to properly ventilate methane, the highly-combustible gas that likely played a role in the explosion. Fourteen of the victims have still not yet been identified. The explosion has become the deadliest mining disaster in the United States since 1984.

A construction worker has been seriously injured after a fall of approximately 14 feet which occurred while the man was working at One World Trade Center. Emergency responders took him to Bellevue Hospital, where was listed as being in serious condition.

A construction worker from New Jersey was trapped in a 20-foot ditch after pinned-in by construction equipment at a construction site in Delaware.
The 35-year-old worker was working in the ditch around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday when a coworker attempted to connect a front bucket to a backhoe. The bucket then slid down the side of the ditch to where the worker was located. Luckily, the bucket did not fall on top of the worker, but trapped the worker for 2 hours as rescue crews tried to get him out of the hole. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

A trucking company based in Colonie, NY has been ordered by the state to pay $315,600 to the New York insurance fund after it was discovered that the company was underreporting payroll in order to avoid paying for workers’ compensation. The Superior Court of New Jersey Appellate Division has ruled that a man injured while on a coffee break is entitled to full disability benefits. The accident occured around 8 a.m. at an oil rig in Oklahoma. According to officials, oil rig workers were lifting a pipe when it suddenly broke loose.
