Family of volunteer firefighter files workers compensation case

The Iowa Supreme court has ruled on a workers compensation case that was filed after the death of a volunteer firefighter in 2005.

The incident occurred when the firefighter’s boss fell into a manure pit and was overcome by fumes so the man tried to go into the pit and save him, but he was also overcome by the methane fumes.

Officials from the workers compensation commission ruled that the man was working as a farm hand and a volunteer firefighter when the accident occurred because when he was notified of the emergency he was in the capacity of a firefighter.

NY Trucking Company Ordered to Pay After Underreporting Payroll

A trucking company based in Colonie, NY has been ordered by the state to pay $315,600 to the New York insurance fund after it was discovered that the company was underreporting payroll in order to avoid paying for workers’ compensation.
