According to a new study by a Congressional watchdog agency, workplace injuries are going under-reported by company doctors looking to save their businesses money. A New York man has been charged with committing long-term, systemic insurance fraud after receiving five years of workers compensation payments. The workers compensation carrier alleged this was a violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and counted as mail fraud; the court ruled against the carrier. New legislation signed into law by President Obama will extend the amount of time a person can claim unemployment benefits by twenty weeks.
